On March 8, 2023, I hosted a Wednesday Workshop about enhancing creativity, a topic in which many UTeach students were curious about. My role as a Student Ambassador in UTeach had me be the facilitator and organizer of the Wednesday Workshop series. Students are surveyed at the end of every workshop for any suggested topics that people wanted to know more about. One of the topics for the Spring 2023 semester was ways to enhance creativity.

The main goal of this workshop was to get people familiar with the creative process and see how it is used by designers, teachers, and other makers. I first had the students do a warm-up activity where they had to brainstorm as many things about one topic (which would later be relevant to another activity we would be doing after). Then we had people discuss about different aspects of creativity and why they don't see themselves using it as often. This then led into another discussion about the creative process, and people had to come up with ideas to revise a poem related to the warm-up activity. We then did another discussion to debrief the activity, and I also promoted the Foundry for people who haven't gotten the chance to explore it yet.

This workshop went really well. A lot of people had a lot of fun, and there were many different takeaways from the attendees. I definitely wish we had more time to explore the ambiguity behind creativity, especially since this was such a broad topic for people to talk about. This has made me realize that a lot of people are afraid to put themselves out there and not engage in their own creativity. Many people think that creativity is a trait, which could possibly be linked to an accessibility issue. Certain people may think that they don't have creativity because they don't see themselves as artistic. I wish I got people to discuss about the differences between being artistic and creative and what holds people back from engaging in their creativity. People don't know that creativity is something that everyone possesses. Especially in classrooms, it is important for students to engage in their own creativity as it allows them to communicate their ideas and express themselves. It helps them get familiar with the content, and it makes them more likely to engage in their own creativity.
